What version of the NeroSVC.exe file are you using?

I got NeroSVC, install and uninstall inf's from Craig, but no readme. Can someone tell me how to use these files? Nothing happens when I try to run NeroSVC in any directory; I take it I need to install it somehow. How do I do that? Thanks.

I always include the Readme.

A few customers have reported it's renamed when sent. Such as AT001x.txt. Below is the readme file.

You must run the NeroSVC manually from a DOS prompt, and for the <group> you select the workgroup you wish to work with such as USERS

Regards,

Craig

The following description is prelimnary.
The final version will be provided by the Nero installer.

A. How to allow that users without admin rights can burn under NERO

1. Copy the following files in the Nero folder:
- NeroSVC.exe
- NeroSecurityUninstall.inf

2. run the command

NeroSVC -service <group>

in a console window. <group> is the name of an existing user group,
where people with burn permission are members.

Note:
If you want to grant access to all users without any modification
of your accounts and groups, use the group called 'Users' on English systems or
'Benutzer' on German ones.

3. reboot the system

B. How to deny access to <group>

Run the command:

NeroSVC -uninstall

This command only removes the burn permission of <group>.
NeroSVC remains on the system.

C. How to change the group with access permission

1. First execute step B
2. Then execute step A

Note:
- Installation of a new group without removing the old one does
not have any effect.
- Currently it's not possible to use Nero for changing the group

D. How to remove NeroSVC completely from the system

- First run step B
- Then rightclick | install NeroSecurityUninstall.inf.

Caution:
executing NeroSvcUninstall.inf without step 2 may cause to
prevent you from removing access privileg for <group>. You can
resolve this problem by executing step A. again by using the same
group as before

Hi Craig,

I am also following the problem which many other nero users are facing. I cannot burn the cd when I am not logged in as administrator. I can also not see the tab 'Security' under preference menu. Can you please tell me where can I find the following two files -

- NeroSVC.exe
- NeroSecurityUninstall.inf

A small instruction file will also be of help.
\
Thanks

kabeer

I was having this same problem, and I was logged in as the administrator. I isolated it though, check this out:

It turns out that when I had audiograbber running, Nero would act like I don't have burning rights. It's very easy to reproduce: open audiograbber and start Nero, and Nero tells me I don't have burn rights. Close audiograbber and I'm fine. And even if I already have Nero open and burnable, if I open audiograbber I can't burn.

Interesting.

I'm on Win2k SP2 using Nero 5.5.6.4.

So maybe if you're having this problem, shut down absolutely all other running programs?

I won't be checking this forum again, if you have any questions email me whatyoulookin@yahoo.com. I'm going to CC nero tech support.

Any who wish to test these files, please send a request to me at techsupport4@nero.com

Hopefully, a future Nero release will make this un-needed.

Craig

I have been having this problem, but only on non-admin accounts. We can't allow all users to have admin rights so I have been actively serching for/trying workarounds without much luck. However, I did stumble on the answer to the select group during install and security tab problem. During the install you have to pick typical and then proceed until you get to the "Install" button. Instead of clicking on "Install", click "Back" and you'll magically be at the screen where you select the group with burning rights. The only thing is, on my systems no groups show up to select. After installation finishes the Security tab will be there and you can go ahead & select a group, but again, on my systems this doesn't do the trick.

Just a note. It appears we have had a 99% succes rate with the patch to allow the Security feature of Nero to function. We expect a future release of Nero to have these needed drivers included with Nero, and have this function working upon installation.

Thanks for all of you who have tested this and reported back your succes!

Best Regards,

Craig

Thank you Craig for sending the NeroSVC files.
Unfortunately when I try to run any of the commands described in the readme I get an "Error OpenPolicy returned 1722".
I have confirmed that I am logged on with an Admin account but I get this error if I run the NeroSVC -service command, and/or if I try to install either of the INF files.

Any assistance you can provide would be very much appreciated. Have tried to research but am at a dead end.
Thanks,
Kevin

Actually, bugger that, I found them on the web. Gotta love Google.

E-mail me if you want it and can't get in touch with this Nero guy.

Cheers,

B.
