Are Verbatim DataLifePlus 48x Cd-rs good?

I've never used them before, because it's really hard to find them where I live. But...today I found a store that is selling a 50-pack.

Are they made in Taiwan or Japan?

I went to the store to check those Verbatim CD-rs.

But I didn't buy them, because the manufacturer was CMC Magnetics! And the dye type was phthalocyanine.

I thought all Verbatim were made by Mitsubishi Chemicals (and dye type Azo)...

what si the difference between phthlocyanine and azo, and which is better and how do you find the manufacturer [CMC etc]???

It was my understanding that Verbatim DataLife *PLUS*
is always made by Mitsubishi and the CMC made discs
were Verbatim DataLife or ValuLife.

Note that this does not mean that the non "Plus"
discs are *always* made by CMC.

Unfortunatly, some Verbatim DataLife Plus discs have been detected as CMC. I've known at least one person who has received these discs so far, and I've heard of other cases on other forums.

It seems that all of my 48x and 52x Verbatim Datalife Plus discs are made in Mexico... I'm not sure if Mitsubishi HAS a plant in Mexico though...[:I]

wow, what speed were those CMC Plus ones packaged as?

hrm, I don't actually know... but they were purchased around may-april 2003, so probably either 32x or 48x, but not 52x. I'd ask the guy, but I only "know him" slghtly on a webcomic forum. He mentioned he bought some Verbatim DataLifePlus CD-Rs that were giving him problems, whereas they normally worked fine for him. I don't remember what burner he had, but I remember it wasn't a LiteON, or LiteON re-brand (since that was the first thing I checked!). So I got him to download Nero CD Speed and give me tell me who made them. He told me that the discs were reported as CMC but I didn't believe him, so I asked for the ATIP itself, and confirmed that they indeed were CMC... so then I grilled him about the packaging, "does it say DataLife *plus*? or just DataLife?" and he came back quite confident that it said plus on the packaging.

I imagine it is not a common thing, since CMC is only really used by larger manufacturers for when they can't meet their own demands. Still, it can be a bit scary!

heh heh, yeah i would have been doubtful too.
maybe it was just a mistake in packaging.

Verbatim seems to be using everything they can get recently ;-(

I bought 2 20 packs Verbatim Datalife Slimcase @Amazon
and guess what they were made by Taiyo Yuden..

They work very good no C2 errors detected. They were pretty
cheap too.

Verbatim has been known to use Taiyo Yuden for their Pastel line of CD-Rs.

That's too bad about the CMC DVDs under the Verbatim name ...

The ones I got were CMC azo ... I think they were 16x, from Grand & Toy. They came in the those flexible plastic, coloured snap-packs.

ooo! bet you paid a forune for them! I've seen CMC made discs using the AZO dye before, but I thought my mind was playing tricks on me! Good to hear someone else verify that for me!

Actually this Taiyo Yuden are Slimcase Verbatim 700 MB
48* Extra Protection Surface with white surface and
silver writing.

I also have pastell Verbatim but they were
really made by Mitsubishi (they are certified for 40*)

Someone on the german Brennmeister forum posted that only
Verbatims in Jewel Cases are safe.. He claimed to have a spindle
with differnt Blanks (partly CMC and partly MCC)
