I've had problems burning data UDF/ISO data disks using Memorex (-R and +R) media and Nero 6 Ultimate, regardless of writing speed. Even recording at 1x, I can get errors during the closing of the TAO recording.

I also can't use Memorex 4x DVD+R with CloneDVD - the movies are all unplayable.

Does anyone know if there are Memorex <-> DV-W50 compatability issues? What is a recommended 4x -R and +R media type for this drive?

You drive does not support the +R only the -R dvd format from everything that I read.

There is a possibility that his Teac TEAC DV-W50 is a ±R Writer as Teac do 2 Models :-

- DV-W50D which is ±R/RW Duel Format

So it would have helped if azjazz had put the full Model Number to save confusion !!!

I have the Dual (DVD±R/RW) version. According to Nero's Info tool, it's a DV-W50D.

Based upon what I can see physically on the drive (the circular vents on the back and the two small horizontal slots below the tray in front), and on the technical specs, I'm guessing that my drive is based upon a Pioneer A06/106 series drive.

I've usually had really good luck with Memorex media in the past - it's been really portable and reliable for CD-R & CD-RW media.

I've had rotten luck with their DVD+R 4x media, and marginal luck with the DVD-R 2x media. I tried a TDK DVD+RW 2.4x yesterday that seemed to work OK.

BTW, there were two separate posts for two totally separate problems (one of which now seems to be deleted).

The problem in this posting is regarding Memorex media compatability with my drive.

My other problem (the recently deleted one) is with Nero 6 Ultimate, and how it is detecting the maximum writing speed (seemingly incorrectly). I will need to fix this problem separately, regardless of finding good recording media. This problem may be related to an incorrect setup or configuration problem on my PC. Until that gets fixed, I won't be able to utilize any media type over 2x.

I still need an answer on that one ... I guess I'll repost it in a day or two so that there is some seperation from this problem.

I used to know how to get the media's real manufacturer with some Sony (Prassi) software, but I don't have that installed anymore.

How do I find out the real manufacturer? I haven't found anything with Nero or CloneCD, but I may have missed something.

Well this is very strange indeed as your Teac DV-W50D is a rebranded Pioneer a106 and I have used all the Media you have informed us you are using With a Pioneer a06 which is virtually the same drive and I have no problems at all. The only thing I can think of is the Firmware and there is no new version except the 1.05 and that is usually the one that came with your Drive !!!

Using the Memorex DVD+R 4x (Manufacturer: Ricoh) media and Instant Copy at "Medium" (something less than 4x, but I don't know what) writing speed I have seen a Hardware Error: Write 32768 bytes at position 0 error around 50% of the time that I try to burn a DVD.

This is getting pretty infuriating!

Has anyone found media that I can consistantly use at 4x with the DV-W50D? Actually, I would pretty much be glad to write consistantly at 2x these days.
