is this the fastest ripping drive and the best one to get in quality ???????
 
I have a pionner 106 slot drive and it ripps at 5.5x to 8.0x ish
what speed do`s the aopen one ripp at ?????? is there a better drive  just would like some help
as i read it at cdriinfo thay think the aopens the best  ???

thanks mender but thats not the drive i am after its the Aopen 1648 AAR PRO the site you gave me is the Aopen 1648 AAR
its not the pro version, cdrinfo posted the pro version review i have looked at the aopen website and there is diffrences between the drives not much but i dont know if its worth going for the pro version ????? or not but many people rate the pro version and never seem to say anything about the none pro version.

Yes there are differences between the AAR and AAR Pro, unfortunaly we have tested only the AAR Pro, i don't know if you can buy now the AAR version, some people like it somewhat more than the AAR Pro, i guess it will take sometime for AOpen to please all users

i can get the aar version, but why do people like the aar version over the arr pro version ??????

do`s the arr pro version of the drive rip faster than the arr version and if so how much faster ????

There is a problem of availability of the Aopen 1648 aap pro at the moment as you have found, although plenty of the 1648 aap. This could be due to dealer's wishing to reduce the stock level's of the latter or some manufacter's whim.
The difference between the two is marginal & down to the fact that the pro does not have headphone socket/volume or next track button ( allowing one or two tweaks inside )
As I see it you can either get the 1648 or try to get a dealer to order the pro you. 
Whether it would be worth the wait for the is difficult as the difference in practice is marginal . 
It would appear in the not too distant future that many if not all manufacter's will stop producing dvd rom drive's as they will no longer be viable ( at the moment dvd rom drive £15 typical dvdrw drive £30 plus ) as sale's of dvd rom drive's fall & dvdrw drive's rise.

but do both drives rip at the same speed i have herd the aap rips at a max 9.5x and the aap pro at 16x or is this not true ?????
you siad allowing one or two tweaks inside on the pro ?????

I have found the aap pro for £27 including post
and found the aap none pro version for £22 including post

I have been informed by a mate who has the Aopen 1648 aap pro that the drive he has will rip at 6x>16x
The non pro appears to rip at 5x>10x
Both sets of figures are dependent on media
The tweaks are two components on the drive's board are of a higher grade (allowing quicker/better error correction)
No is the answer to the question regarding overclockers ( If the illustration is supposed to be an accurate representation of the item, what you are shown is an Aopen 1648 aap. )
N.B. My mate's just rang me to say that the pro is not only quicker, but has lower niose levels due to improved damping.

The Pioneer 109 is good although a lot of folk's prefer Nec's 3520a ( both based on  Nec's new chip ) as there is more support/mod's around
I've used both but prefer Nec's 3540a, have a look here

N.B. When you see a new 107 it's price is often more than that for the 109

you said the nec has "as there is more support/mod's around" what do you mean that i thought a writer was just a writer what can a mod nec do that a mod 109 cant???? why is it better drive the nec

will the  LG 4163b  be a writer or just a rom also why is it better


also whast the diffrence between these drives the Pioneer DVR-109XLA and the Pioneer DVR-109 ????

If you goto http://gradius.rpc1.org/  you'll find a f/w patch that not only makes it region free but also riplock Why?
Basically your107 is set to a region & locked ( locking means the drive will rip at say 5x>8x ) Manufacter's do this they say to cut down on errors
Unlocking a drive lets it rip at say 6x>12x or even in theory 6x>16x depending on the drive ( difference 12x &16x on typical DVD is only about 30 sec as the high speeds are only peaks )
So if your happy with the 107 you can upgrade f/w make it region free + riplock thereby improving it's flexability & performance
Originally people used a reader + a writer because of cost, now alot of folk's use two writers
At present as far as I know ther is no f/w available to do this on the 109
This is not the case with Nec there are several patches around even for the latest drive 3540a
The LG 4163b like any other dvdrw can be used as a reader or writer ( although there are patches to make this region free )
ther is no riplock as far as I know (meaning ripping speed 5x>8x )
For writing either the Pioneer or the LG would be fine
But for reading if speed is important to you, you'll be better off with either a riplock or aDVD Rom
As your happy with your 107 I thought you could try the f/w unlocking it & concentrate on getting a dual layer burner
This would mean saving some pennies ( as you'd no longer need a DVD Rom ) or you get a more exspensive burner

Believe me, the drive I referred to at the Scan website is the Pro version. I know, because I have bought one. from there, and it is definitely the Pro. The none-Pro version is no longer manufactured, so the chances are, any Aopen 1648 AAP you see advertised is the Pro version.
