Hi

Is there any nice software that could divide nicely files and folders over several CDRs (e.g.~700mb)?

Actually, I mean the situation in which I have more than 700mbs stuff in my disk and I would like to somehow automatically divide them into <=700mb images.
And by that way I could burn CDRs (as many as needed) and use them independently (not in the way as e.g. Roxio's retrieve does).

Well you can use WinRar to compress and split the files to 700 meg, then you could use any burning software that can do mutlisession. Nero is what I use.

Thanks for a hint.

Winrar is excellent tool but I would like to store files and folders as they are into CDRs.
The point is to just reorganize automatically directory structure into 700meg pieces.

I am looking for the same - I would advise against using winrar - because of the potential for errors. If one error occurs you may not be able to recover the entire content.

When hard discs where small I used Ghost for the job. I do not know if it is still in wide circlation, though. Acronis and BackupItNow, my friends here tell me, also work.

Did not think of that! Good suggestion! I use it to backup my hard drive and it works so well! As for WinRar, I have used it for years to span files across CDs and have NEVER had a problem with errors.

And something else I forgot to Mention was that Norton 2003 has a built in explorer so when you have made the Ghost you can extract anything you want from it without unpacking the Whole thing !!!

And if WinRar's speed is of some concern, you can always use it in packing mode, which is quite fast:)

WinRAR and Norton Ghost are out of the question in my case.
CD content should be readable without any other SWs.

So, SW should only reorganize folders and files to 700Mb pieces that can be later burnt on the CD.

I had that kind of SW long time ago for 1.44Mb disks.

A quick and dirty solution might then seem to be to author the discs manually. You will waste a few discs, but anyway these are very cheap today.
Ofcourse, there is the "overhead" of doing it manually...
