Here's the ATIP for some Ricoh 40x CD-Rs I just Purchased:

(from MInfo 1.5)
LITE-ON LTR-48125W
Drive Type = CD-RW
Disc Type = CDR (C-)
Lead In = 97:27:66
Lead Out = 79:59:71
Nominal = 702.82MB (79m 59s 71f/LBA:359846)
Manufacturer = Ricoh Company Limited
Cur. Speed = Wrt(48X),Rd(12X)

So, they have a Ricoh ATIP, so they musrt be Ricoh right? Wrong! Check out these serial numbers:

Inner Hub Serial#: J506RS30511535OF13 80
Outer "Holographic" Hub Serial#: SFD80K-00002-27

The outer serial number of the Ricoh CD-R matches the same serial number style for Ritek perfectly. The inner hub serial number follows the same format of Ritek as well, although uses a variation I haven't seen before, but still the same pattern/style.

I just finished doing a burn of one of the discs, and the quality is in keeping with what I've come to expect from Ritek. The C1 error rate was just a little over 2 per sector when tested at 32x with K-Probe 1.1.21 (I burned a VCD so couldn't test any faster).

So I'm pretty sure that these discs were indeed made by Ritek. I find this fairly odd since I know that Ricoh makes their own CD-Rs as well... did Ricoh maybe convert too many of their CD factories into DVD factories?

I think most Ricoh CDR are made from Taiwan unless it has "Made in Japan" on the CDR/the box.

I don't know much about Ritek, but I got some Riteks from Circuitcity a couple month ago, those cds have circuitcity logo & print on it. And I found them to be quite good in quality, lot better than other CMC discs I tried. I forgot where they made though...

Just out of curiosity, I did some tests on my old old Ricoh cdrs (Gold, 4X, 650mb) which I had for over 4-5 years. And I found the result to be astonishing...

Manufacturer: Ricoh Company Limited
Lead-In start (ATIP): 97:27:65 (-11560)
Media Type: CD / CD-R
Lead-Out Maximum: 74:12:00 (333750)
Dye Type: Phthalochanine, etc
Capacity: 651.86[MB]

Here's the result:

The price for these cds were like $20 for 10 pcs, but that was like 5 years ago... I'm really impressed by its quality...[^]

the question is, are those blank spaces a lack of errors? or unreadable sectors? [:p]

@Dolphinus_Rex: All newer Ricoh CD-R's are made by RiTEK and they're of really high quality. The only difference between the Ricohs and RiTEKs is the dye type used. Both use phthalocyanine, but apparently the Ricohs use a different formulation made by Ricoh in Japan.

My current collection of Ricohs consist of:
- 1x 50-pack spindle of 40x media
- 5x 10-packs of 8x media (Made by RiTEK)
- 6x 10-packs of 8x media (Made by Ricoh USA)

From my testing, the 8x media burns just as well as the 40x media on my LiteOn LTR-32123S using XS0X firmware...rather surprising, isn't it?

@Dolphinus_Rex,

Notice also in the serial number on the disc that you supplied:

J506RS30511535OF13 80

The "R" means Ricoh dye type.

Just tested that old a$$ cd using surface scan w/ nero cd speed, all sectors are readable, only 1 yellow sector. I'm not sure how reliable is nero cd speed, but I'd be glad to test that cd with other tools.

No big news here.
All Ricoh own production lines are used for DVD+R production.
All cd-r production for Ricoh branded disc's and also a part of DVD+R production is done by Ritek.
Or did people really think that Ricoh can make alllmost all +R media that is out there.(simply put that would make Ricoh one of the 3 largest DVD manufacturers in the world.)

Sony, TDK ,Ricoh ,Ritek , Platinum,Philips,HP, FUJI, MEMOREX,
Imation, EMTEC, SPEER, SK , Primedisc(RITEK+PHILIPS),StorQuest,Nahsua,
Ultron, Gut&billig, sky, sentinel are all usseing ricoh media.

Other +R manufacturers are
Hispace MPO,MCC,CMC and I think TY also these days.

If people are interested I could give a more detailed overview of which compannies work together and on what.
