I heard nothing at all positive about the Philips media at all. Definately not one fo CMC's good batches anyways. yes they do have some. I tested a disc I burned at 8x, was H2O brand, with just a label says 40X in big letters on a grey sticker. It got a 4.8 C1 average. Not too damn bad.

Acer is in dispute. Personally, I hear more good than bad, but I wouldn't trust them.

Mitsubishi Verbatim discs are well known for the Azo dye and their long life, and low BLER rates. Great disc.

Taiyo Yuden are another elite manufacturer. I dont think they have heard of the word bad when it comes to their discs. They're worst discs out perform some companies best. Nuff Said.

I dont have a sniff about TDK, anyone? I believe I heard people reading that they aren't great, but aren't elephant turd quality either.

Prodisc in their 48x media seems to be a havnig a couple more complaints. Their 32x stuff was pretty solid. So I think these are ok, goign by safe assumption but who knows.

thanks Y2Jared.

I heard enough complains about the CMC cd's but you know its really weird ... i'm using Philips CD-R's media almost 4 years & you know what, never experience any damn troubles with them, haven't lost even one single cd ... isn't says something?
I know, its sometimes also depends on your cd burner .. i have an old one Teac x8 SCSI machine, doing the job :)

I'm copying cd's since 1998 didnt lost 1 cd since then, the only one i lost was the garbage Princo cd's ... let them "burn" in hell [}:)]

I can do a review on some philips CMC media if people are interested? I don't know the specs of the media yet but I know where I can get some cheap

since i avoid CMC entirely (at least as far as the usual 74/80min media goes), i'm not interested at all. save your money for something people here are more likely to buy :-).

how were those 16x yamaha/TYs you bought? i was going to pick some up (along with the CMC 99min) but ended up getting sidetracked to richmond. i have a 12x writer i still use and it would probably be better if i got slower media for it.

Rabbit: The Yamaha CD-Rs were awsome! I went back and bought another 25pcs and picked up 25pcs of "That's" as well (since they are also T.Y.)

I'll see about picking up the Philips media then, I can't make any promises as to when I can get it though.

You still need to be lucky enough (Lucky in this case [?][?]) to find CMC disc's when buying Philips at this moment the change in EUrope seems to be 50/50 for finding cmc or ritek in the packages when it comes to 40x Philips media.
90 minutes Philips in Europe is allways made by Primedisc(Ritek+ Philips)

@Dolphinus_Rex:
Have you done any testing on those "That's CD-R"? I myself use That's CD-R Gold 40x and That's CD-R Printable 32x with my LiteOn LTR-32123S and I've had AMAZING results from them (to say the least).! I often get C1 max under 10 when recorded at 32x, and even better, on my friend's LTR-52246S with latest firmware, I've managed to get C1 max at _5_ and C1 average under _0.150_ when the discs were written at 40x or 48x! (48x with SMART-BURN disabled)

no testing on the "That's" media yet, but I did notice that they are different discs then the Yamaha 20x CD-Rs. THey are capable of being burned at 48x instead of only up to 40x

I'm sorry to say that I went back to pick up some Philips media from the store and they were out and from what the owner said they won't be getting anymore either, at least not in the foreseeable future.

so unless someone wants to ship me some, or knows where I can buy some locally, I can't do a review on it. Once again, sorry!

(they also sold out of Yamaha and That's media, I bought the last spindle of That's myself! )

if you go and decide to chat with them a bit, can you find out for me if those sony's are the old TY ones (i'm not much of a chatter at stores)? as far as i recall, the last 650/74 sonys sold here were TY and then sthey switched to 80min/sony-ATIP ones. apparently they have jewelcased ones too (!). wonder if they are the ones that come in the 10 pack heavy cardboard boxes. i use to buy those for $18/box. the first CD-Rs that i bought :-).

I doubt if they know! [:I] most ocmputer stores don't really care about these things, which is really sad if you think about it! But I do enjoy a good chat about media

I'll let you know if I get a chance to visit them
