I have recently starting burning audio CD's, specifically to promote my work.

Previously, before I had the laptop from which I am writing this, I could burn any audio files onto CD's and be able to hear them on pretty much any CD player.

So my problem, I am currently running Windows XP, have tried burning via NERO and Window Media Player and get the same results for any manufacturer of CD - when I burn, copying from CD to CD I have no problems. However when I burn .WAV or MP3 files direct from my hard-drive I can no longer hear them on the CD player in my car.

Can anybody help this probably very simple problem?

Okay, you say you can't hear them on your car. What about other CD Players? Do they play okay in other players and just not the car?

Do you have WinXP's built in burning disabled?

They play on my Sony portable but not my Sony DVD, although no CD-RW's play on the Sony DVD.

How would I know about the burning disabled facility?

I have just come back from a friends house and tried the new CD's on his CD player and they did not work there either!!

If they played on your portable, but not a different one, this is probably a media issue, and you need to try different brands of media.

To disable WinXP's built in burning go into your administrative tools, then services and applications, then services, then scroll down until you see IMAPI burning, DISABLE this.

is it possible that you're making data CD-Rs with audio files, and not audio format CD-Rs??

Some discmans can handle these CD-Rs whereas most car stereos and CD players can't. It may explain what's been happening. [?]

I have double checked to make sure that I am making audio CD-R's and that I am finalising them - this makes no difference.

I have also disabled IMAPI and again this makes no difference.

I noticed you answered that you "were not" using Disc At Once DAO above, try DAO.
