BenQ 1620, without, reads DL at 14x and all the rest at 16x!

Now which DVD-ROM drive is that fast? Maybe we should get a 1620 instead of a DVD-ROM drive.

Aopen DVD-1648/AAP reads DL @16x

seeker i think dw1620a supports DL at 12X, not 16X

yup the drive I mentioned reads DL faster and without the need of hacked firmware so definetely a separate dvd-rom is still better or faster.

Read all the pages, the patch author said it can rip DL at 16x. But nobody posted a picture showing more than 14x for DL, that's why I said 14x.

At Aopen vs Toshiba test Aopen gets 13x at DL. Yours get 16x?

I have seen someone get 16x. when I find the link I will post it for you. if you see a 1620 read dl @16x please post it. Until someone actualy does it, it is just speculation.

Oh BTW like I said it is non pro version. the link you posted is reffering to a pro version. I am not sure of the differences between the 2 drives.

Mine did 14x with a clean pressed disk after the speed hack. With burned DL it was slow, with minus it has a drop about 1/4 in then picks right back up to finish at 16x usually. I think I'd like to pick up a AOpen 1648 soon too, sounds like a good fast drive.
Maybe I'll try the biggest pressed DL I have and see if it hits 16x but the speed hack isn't perfect with burned media, seems OK with pressed disks. Doesn't seem to affect the error reporting at all though so people can try it and see how it does for them.
