Microsoft is looking to have its first cluster version of Windows ready by this fall, just in time for the Super Computing Conference. This version of Windows will however have some restrictions on it, such as not allowing IIS to run. This version of Windows will however support many of the same cluster protocols used on Linux. Such as MPI and tools to program apps to run in a cluster environment. This is a bold new market for Microsoft, and they are targeting Red Hat. I am curious to see how many companies will adopt this version of Windows over what can be done with Linux. I guess we will all see in due time.
