Okay,

Finally I got some +R DL Media from Verbatim, rated at 2.4x burn speed.

I did a burn on the Plextor 716A using Nero 6.6.0.8 and wrote the media at 6x. As you can see below this was an outstanding burn. Even though there is a "minute" increase of PIE at the layer change, this burn still looks fantastic.

PIE: Avg = 0.19, Avg = 11, Total = 47346.

PIO: 0

Yeah,

I did a duplicate burn with CopyToDVD, and the burn with Nero 6.6.0.8 looks better! Looks like the DL burn has settled down with them.... the film plays with no breaks, looks PERFECT!

do you think firmware 1.05 will add/enable LightScribe?
Or am I dreaming?

Definately Dreaming, The Plextor 716A is not a litescribe drive.

I am not sure if firmware can accomplish this or not, but Plextor is not planning on this.

Just my opinion here, but I think LiteScribe is nothing more than a fad to generate short term revenue and it will likely live just a bit longer than DiscT@2 did with the Yamaha drives. For as often as I burn backups and eventually toss the discs, a TDK CD-Writer pen will do me justice for a long, long time.

Don't get me wrong, it is probably a good idea but media prices will keep me uninterested. For those few discs I may like to label, my wife needs a new printer and one of those $99.00 U.S. Epson printers that prints directly on CD/DVD's will probably be just fine and; the media is affordable and I get color.

Plextor officially supports 6x DL with the 1.04 firmware. Even has it on their website.

I don't think LightScribe will be a fad. It will definately move to the mainstream. The neat thing about it is that the speeds improve by the media and not the drives themselves. There is some new LightScribe media coming out soon that doubles the speed of the process.

In the further future, it will just keep improving. So you don't have to wait for faster LightScribe drives... the media is what makes it faster. And if you've seen them, they are quite amazing actually. LightScribe is here to stay and I promise you, it is the next big thing and the future.

I think it's a fad also, I don't think most people have the time to be bothered with it, and a sharpie is nice and quick.
