Yes, you can just set it to "Disabled" It seems the burner may perhaps be toast. I would suggest trying it in a different computer system (perhaps a friend?) and see if the results are then the same, if they are you will know for sure.

MP3Mogul, I really appreciate your help with this matter. One more question before I drag my behind back to Office Max. This burner will play CD's, just have burning issues. Still think it's shot?

MP3Mogul,

was the disable the service in the components advice for me or coolpcfixer?

To you, or anyone else, any thoughts on how I can correct the problem I am having with reading a CD from the KHypermedia drive I just installed?

thanks for hints and suggestions in advance.

Sincerely,
James

The "disable" was for "Cool" but I do think you should return the burner, as there should not be issues with it... Jemmie, please post back and let us know your results, so that other users may benefit from it.

I took your advice and returned the burner and viola! That fixed the problem. Sometimes it's hard to remember the easiest rule of troubleshooting hardware. Replace the piece thats having the problem with another one.

Thanks for your help and advice. I really appreciate it.

Had same issues, pc took forever, or did not boot, would not access drive, have the model without the p designation.
Took advice, went to http://www.khypermediaco.com/download.htm and downloaded the firmware for the KCHRW522452. Have serial numbers beginning with 99B1K so I downloaded the 99B1L flash for the 52x unit. Managed to flash the unit and it works as expected and shows up as a 52x unit. Thanks for the advice. I was facing a second rma before finding this forum.

I also have a khypermedia 48x24x48 of D.LC kind. I tried to update with the new firmware on Kypermedia site but the computer restarted in the middle of the update so now I'm am trying to find the BIN or HEX file to see if I can fix it. I would greatly appreciate if someone would e-mail any BIN/HEX that would work with this drive.

THANKS

I don't know which firmware to download. There is no Benq or Khypermedia in the firmware list. I've looked at some lite-on firmware for the 5224 & 4824 drives because i heard the chipsets were the same but both are .exe's and the older firmware links for those drives are dead.
