I've got a Liteon 48246S CDRW with SS08 firmware in the drive. Also I'm using the Liteon Firmware Flashing Tool V 1.0.0.

I want to backup the current firmware in my drive (SS08) if I use the Liteon firmware flashing tool, do i have to click on backup plus update boot code, or only backup. I'm bit confused with this update boot code and not sure what or how to use it.

Can I use this firmware flashing tool to help me update the firmware on my drive?

The update boot code, from what I read at CDFREAKS, is a flash option, not a backup option.

Essential to enable while flashing an EEPROM-less drive (5238S and late version 52327S) as a side effect is that it prevents overwriting of the calibration area, otherwise uncertain.

Unless you have a reason to use a binary when you flash it, I'd go for the Liteon official SS0E

You could OC it with a Flashfixed 6S0F (52246S), but it's hardly worth messing around for an extra 4x - burn quality at 48x max would be better.
