RayLarson -> LaCie External Firewire 16x DVD (1/28/2005 8:37:30 PM)

Actually this drive is a NEC 3500A(G) and will NOT burn 16x disks. Bought 50 Optodisc 16x DVD-R's and the drive refuses to recognize them. Not being that fluent with updating firmware I could use some help if, in fact, that is the case.

Help

Post the MID code, look it up using Nero InfoTool or DVD Identifier.

Loaded InfoTool but can't find MID code (I am not sure where to find it). Please advise

See http://dvd.identifier.cdfreaks.com/ Great help included.
Look for Manufactuer Id Code, you've already posted what brand the disks are.

Here's a page with MID's/Brands

The highest speed I can find for Optodisc is 8x?
Without the MID it's just to hard to say what you best option is.

Another page with an overview/links of most of the current fw's

- great link collection at the bottom of it

Try to update with 2.18 firmware

RayLarson -> RE: LaCie External Firewire 16x DVD (1/29/2005 9:31:57 PM)

Thanks Emperor,

Can you help a newbie thru the process. I really don't want to screw up my drive.

Thanks

Ray, just use Binflash and by pressing the flash, will open a window to select a firmware, grab 2.18 firmware from the corresponding sticky topic and flash your drive, is that simple, usually there are no issue with flashing, there is a small chance that won't be able to flash your drive due to the used USB2.0 case, in that case you simply have to remove the drive from the case and install as normal recorder at your PC (IDE cable) and this time all will go OK!

RayLarson -> RE: LaCie External Firewire 16x DVD (2/1/2005 8:21:10 AM)

Sounds easy enough except I found that my drive has ver 2.07 firmware. (Go figure, I just bought this drive) and the 2.18 upgrade will only upgrade 2.16. So now what?? The manuafacturer has offered to let me return the drive for service (LaCie) but I am seeking assurances that they plan to upgrade the firmware. If not, I am better off solving this myself. Maybe I have to upgrade the 2.07 to 2.16 then upgrade again to 2.18. How do I save my original firmware, in case I have to go back to square one?

PS: Thanks for you're time and assistance in this matter.

with BinFlash you can first SAVE your current firmware to the HDD (extract button) and after this finished, you can use the 2.28 BIN file and flash your drive directly without any other steps

RayLarson -> RE: LaCie External Firewire 16x DVD (2/1/2005 7:45:15 PM)

Hi Emperor,

I loaded binflash and successfully dumped my current firmware to my HDD. I couldn't find 228.bin, I only found 228.rar and that file is not accepted by binflash.

Can you help me out.

Thanks

Yes you need to un-rar the firmware (use WinRAR)

RayLarson -> RE: LaCie External Firewire 16x DVD (2/2/2005 7:20:34 PM)

My undying gratitude,Emperor. I have flashed the drive and I am now burning my Optodisc 16x with an average write speed of 14.4x and no problems. I couldn't have done it without your help. No need now for the DVD writer to go back.

Thanks again for everything. I'll keep my eye open for any further updates.

Ray
