valval -> the best dvd-rw - money is not an issue (10/30/2004 10:19:55 PM)

What is the best dvd-rw unit right now on the market? As specified in the title, money are not the issue.

As far as I understand it is the http://www.cdrinfo.com/Sections/Reviews/Specific.aspx?ArticleId=10584 Pioneer A08XLA DL, isn't it?

Or is the new Plextor 716 a serious concurrent?

The Pioneer DVR-108 or the A08XLA/B would represent the best hardware on the market in my opinion. I feel the Plextor hardware, whilst having impressive specifications, leaves much to be desired in terms of quality, such is my opinion of many plextor products.

Welcome to CDRinfo's Forum!

The Pioneer is indeed very good. However we cannot ignore the NEC or the LG. Personaly I prefer the LG.

As for the Plextor wait for the tests first to be done.[:)]

I think that already have been proved that 108/A08 series is a good burner, with of course strong competitors, as for the Plextor 716 we haven't tested it yet to be 100% about its performance

I am interested in THE BEST, not a good dvd-rw unit. Is the Pioneer the best?

Iggy -> RE: the best dvd-rw - money is not an issue (11/1/2004 1:55:55 AM)

The BEST? As I am always telling there isn't a BEST drive.[:)]

However I would suggest an LG which is good in reading and writng.[:)]

valval -> RE: the best dvd-rw - money is not an issue (11/1/2004 6:41:38 AM)

It weird you mentioning LG, since I assumed that the Pioneer drive, being also the most expensive (check www.newegg.com ) would concurr for the best at least (if it's not).

Basically I wonder why is that Pionner drive so expensive (twice as much as NEC 3500A for example)?

G_IvanAwfulitch -> RE: the best dvd-rw - money is not an issue (11/1/2004 9:35:21 AM)

If money is is no object here then I would suggest that you get the Pioneer, the Nec3500 and the Lg and maybe a Plextor 716 just to play around with. Keep the ones you like best and give the rest to friends. My address is available on request. [:)]

valval -> RE: the best dvd-rw - money is not an issue (11/1/2004 11:55:11 AM)

Yes, well what I ment was is that I can spend say like 170 USD on a dvd-rw, but not more :) All the dvd-rw's are under that price, as far as I saw.

S33K3R -> RE: the best dvd-rw - money is not an issue (11/1/2004 2:28:27 PM)

as was said, there is no best but you can pick a drive that best fits your needs.
what exactly do you want from the drive?

valval -> RE: the best dvd-rw - money is not an issue (11/1/2004 2:59:08 PM)

To write to as many disks as possible, and quality writing (lasting disks). Speed is good also. Easy firmware upgrade and support. :D If possible, low noise. :D

S33K3R -> RE: the best dvd-rw - money is not an issue (11/1/2004 3:56:44 PM)

do you require bitsetting?(bitsetting is setting the booktype from a dvd+r to dvd-rom which ensures compatibility for the most part)
pioneer 108 oem drives burn with very good quality. piodatat 108 oem drives supports auto bitsetting if you require it. if you buy a pio 108 oem drive you can flash with piodata oem firmware to support this bitsetting feature, however keep in mind that flashing your drive with any firmware may void your warranty.
a combination of your dvd burner and good quality media should be used for such results you require.

Although you get what you pay for, this is not true with drives. So ignore the price, it doesn't mean that the most expensive will be the better.

I wouldn't pay $170 for a drive, the time that I could have the same results at the half price.[;)]

S33K3R -> RE: the best dvd-rw - money is not an issue (11/2/2004 9:55:56 AM)

for you paying $170 is a problem but if you read the subject he valval clearly states cost does not matter[;)]
not to mention that the pioneer 108 oem is not even close to $170

Iggy -> RE: the best dvd-rw - money is not an issue (11/2/2004 10:22:58 AM)

The prices are even less than $100.[;)]

valval -> RE: the best dvd-rw - money is not an issue (11/2/2004 6:54:17 PM)

I was not talking about the bulk version. Everyone know it's a bullshit, compared with the retail A08 version, which is about twice as expensive.

I was asking about this dvd-rw and plextor, because basically I think that these two are competing for the title of the supreme dvd-rw.

What do you feel about it?
