speed hacks, booktype, Rpc1..what else? [:D]

Iggy -> RE: LG GSA-4160B Review!!! (10/19/2004 4:17:21 AM)

I am sure that bitsetting will be supported soon, for their own good.[:D]

emperor, Iggy
I think you both have much experience on testing DVD writer, and my opinion of LG-4160B is......

do u agree with me???

After reading a lot of review, I like the LG more, due to its
1. writing quality
2. reading ability
3. DVD-RAM support
4. good price

but the cons:
1. only 2.4xDVD+R DL
2. booktype (may be in next firmware update)
3. few media support (may be fixed by firmware)

Overall I think it is better than NEC3500A
although NEC don't have the cons of LG, it has not good reading performance and DVD-RAM support!

emperor -> RE: LG GSA-4160B Review!!! (10/19/2004 6:34:04 PM)

more or less wilson2888 you are correct, it all depend on what you are looking from a recorder

Iggy -> RE: LG GSA-4160B Review!!! (10/20/2004 3:22:53 AM)

Yeap. But personaly I don't believe overspeed is a problem since I only write at the certified speed of a media. As for booktype I am sure that will be added soon.

Scarpad -> RE: LG GSA-4160B Review!!! (10/23/2004 10:15:27 AM)

I have'nt quite jumped in DL yet the low prices on SL Disks is holding me back. But it looks Like this drive or the NEC 3500 are ones to keep my eye on.. I've been using printible Prodisks has anyone had suceess with these and the LG Drive? Also bitsetting is of some importance to me. I use a HTPC for playback but most of my family has standalone's I need compatibility with.

wilson2888 -> RE: LG GSA-4160B Review!!! (10/23/2004 12:27:22 PM)

I have bought LG4160B, and I hope LG will update the firmware of it very soon!!!
I need more media support and booktype!!!

If I use TDK 8x DVD+R and Verbatim 8x DVD+R burn at 8X, how about the quality? is it good?

I can't test due to I do not have LiteOn DVD writer and Plextor DVD writer,

thanks!!!

FMF -> RE: LG GSA-4160B Review!!! (10/24/2004 10:12:06 AM)

Is there a way to make this drive region free?

emperor -> RE: LG GSA-4160B Review!!! (10/24/2004 11:20:47 AM)

wilson2888 mostly use Verbatim 8X+R, will give almost perfect results, as for PRC1, FMF check over www.rpc1.org

wilson2888 -> RE: LG GSA-4160B Review!!! (10/25/2004 6:46:02 AM)

Yes, I also think Verbatim is good for LG4160B, and how about Taiyo Yuden TY?

I have some TDK 4xDVD-R media which is (TY G01)

Iggy -> RE: LG GSA-4160B Review!!! (10/25/2004 10:28:42 AM)

Very good, if not excellent, also.

emperor -> RE: LG GSA-4160B Review!!! (10/25/2004 1:18:02 PM)

I was refearring to the fact that Verbatim 8X media will burned at 12X/16X with very good results, TY 4X will burned only at 4X (i think so..)

supacon -> RE: LG GSA-4160B Review!!! (10/26/2004 1:40:03 AM)

I'm really curious about this drive's Mt. Rainier CD+MRW support...

check this site out:
http://ca.lge.com/en/prodmodeldetail.do?actType=search&page=1&modelCategoryId=040304&categoryId=040304&parentId=0403&modelCodeDisplay=GSA-4160B&model=Select+a+model#

Is it supported via a new firmware update or something?
That would be nice, because it seems like that feature is still rare is DVD writers

Welcome to CDRinfo's Forum!

If I were you I would avoid packet writing software. I am a fan of the ordinary reliable method.[:)]

supacon -> RE: LG GSA-4160B Review!!! (10/26/2004 2:00:24 AM)

Well, I am aware that it can be very problematic at times, but it does have its handy applications. (i.e. automated daily data backup). Of course, in that case, one could use DVD-RAM with this drive, but +RW media is much cheaper.

Iggy -> RE: LG GSA-4160B Review!!! (10/26/2004 2:14:50 AM)

Yeap, DVD-RAM is just excellent.[:)]

As for MR support CDRinfo's tests reported the opposite.

They have to recheck it, I think, although I believe is correct.[;)]
