SiliconFreak -> Intel To Launch Tri-Mode Chipset! (8/26/2004 4:28:11 PM)

Chip giant Intel is launching a 'tri-mode' Centrino chipset that supports all three wi-fi networking standards.

The new chipset will support 802.11a, b and g wireless technology so laptop users can stay connected to the internet regardless of which standard is being used in their location.

Most public places use the 802.11b standard, 802.11g is becoming more common for internal office networks, and 802.11a is the popular home networking standard.

Until now Intel has only offered a bi-mode chip supporting 802.11b and g so the new chipset will be company's first to support all three standards.

It is trying to make up ground lost to rivals Texas Instruments and Broadcom in the wireless market.
