Okay, here's my results:

I tested it on an old Memorex platinum X-Mas music mix I made 3 years ago. It doesn't give the total count but only a min, max, and average.

For my CD it was:
C1: Min-0 Max-23 Ave-2.294
C2: Min-0 Max-0 Ave-0

the CD was 50:30:38 in length

Nero CD speed reported the CD as 100% perfect. So I give the software thumbs up, and thumbs down to Nero CD speed! Perhaps rjw can try it out and compare the results against the recent CD-R test he took part in?

as always, my test was done on my LiteON 40125S (over clocked to 48125W)

It looks like it might not support CDs over 80min though, I'll have to try that later. Thanks John for such useful software! let's hope it's as good as it looks![:)]

Dolphinius_Rex -> RE: CD Doctor C1/C2 measure software! (11/30/2002 11:36:24 AM)

ok, I did some further testing.

As I feared, the software does not deal with the higher capacity CD-Rs very well. It CAN however test up to 90min, but not beyond that.

There is a SLIGHT difference of reported C1/C2 errors when reading at different different speeds, you only have 2 choices anyways, full speed and 1200 kbps (that's 4x right). However the difference is negligable.

I have tested the same CD-R several times to double check that the software returns consistant results, and it does.

all I can say is: why use Nero CD speed....this thing actually works! [:D]

Nero CD Speed measures C2 errors so the results are the same.
If there are no uncorrectable C2 errors on the disc then every single byte can be retrieved from the disc.
It does not make any sense to say that a disc has defects because it shows C1 errors. All discs show C1 errors.

Dolphinius_Rex -> RE: CD Doctor C1/C2 measure software! (11/30/2002 11:51:02 PM)

all I'm saying is that this software gives you a better idea of the quality of your CD-R. Also, Nero CD speed has some major bugs in it, and sometimes will not show C2 errors properly. It's currently being looked into though [:D] keep an eye on the CMC Media agreement topic in CDR/W the Good and the bad. More info will likely be posted there soon

john -> RE: CD Doctor C1/C2 measure software! (12/1/2002 5:11:53 AM)

The test report of the CD Doctor will vary according to the used drive. A drive with 100% C2 error report accuracy would be ideal!

Pio2001 -> RE: CD Doctor C1/C2 measure software! (12/31/2002 4:21:16 AM)

Memorex DVD MAxx 1648 : not working
Yamaha CRW3200 EVK : not working

sambs0 -> RE: CD Doctor C1/C2 measure software! (1/22/2003 2:48:15 AM)

Sony CRX220E1 - works
Yamaha F1EZ - does NOT.

NOTE: I tried to test a scratchy CDR in the Yama. CD Doctor hung up so hard that WinXP was totally unable to kill it in a real time. I had to just power down.
Well, it is a beta version; no surprize.

Same scratchy CDR has poped up so severe C1/C2 errors (what a crap by CMC Magnetics!) that if I am to make a final choice between the two drives, Sony is the winner!

john -> RE: CD Doctor C1/C2 measure software! (1/22/2003 11:45:21 AM)

220E1 is a winner at which area? [:D]

sambs0 -> RE: CD Doctor C1/C2 measure software! (1/22/2003 1:11:38 PM)

"220E1 is a winner at which area?"
[:I]220E1 is the winner as a testing tool.
When it comes to the quality audio recording, nothing can match the Yama F1 - please see my extensive last post at "Yamaha F1ZE vs. Sony CRX220E1 (FW=6S0A Lite-On)?".[:D][:D][:D]

john -> RE: CD Doctor C1/C2 measure software! (1/22/2003 4:54:59 PM)

Yes i just read it, seems nice, even C1/C2 cannot tell the whole truth!

Dolphinius_Rex -> RE: CD Doctor C1/C2 measure software! (2/3/2003 10:38:31 AM)

I just tested my mother's Creative 12x10x32x CD-RW Drive and CD Doctor works perfectly!

Though I have to say the writing quality of the drive is horrible! [xx(]

rblake -> RE: CD Doctor C1/C2 measure software! (2/7/2003 4:27:20 PM)

Can this be used on a drive not in either list?

Can it be used on a ROM drive?

Is there one that can be used with any drive?

R.

Dolphinius_Rex -> RE: CD Doctor C1/C2 measure software! (2/7/2003 6:36:01 PM)

The CD drive needs to use the Mediatek chip set, and have the ability to report C2 errors. So, most CD-ROMS is not all of them will automatically be ruled out right there.

Nero CD Speed will work on all CD-Writers, but they still need to support C2 reporting (*some* CD-ROMS can do this too). But if the drive has BAD C2 errors reporting, then your testing will not be that accurate [xx(]

Yes that is why we are saying the list is under update...

Don't know, LiteOn CD/DVD-ROM are not supported...

Software you mean? Not really, since every manufacturer uses their own commands to retrieve C1/C2 errors.

rblake -> RE: CD Doctor C1/C2 measure software! (2/10/2003 3:09:20 PM)

It appears to work on my Liteon 12102B.

So, if it appears to work, does it work?

Ta,

R.
