astra -> Broadcom links up with LG. (9/8/2009 5:41:30 AM)

There is yet more news from Broadcom Corporation, as it announced on Friday that LG Electronics has decided to use its BCM3556 digital TV system on a chip solution for a new line of HDTVs.

Broadcom Corporations is a leading company that provides semiconductors that can be used in both wireless and wired communication technologies.

The new BCM3556 is a DVB based solution for digital televisions that will be soon seen at the IFA 2009 convention.

It is a video decoder that allows consumers to access a wealth of features to better their viewing experience, creates high performance for the HDTV set, and increases the value of the picture quality.

It has a 3D graphics core, a video decoder, and can support HD resolutions of both 1080p and WXGA.

It also supports global connections due to the fact that it is a DVB-T demodulator that has built in support with a phase alternating line.

It also has compounded network connectivity, support for sequential colour with memory, and an integrated Ethernet media access controller that is combined with a physical layer device so that the chip can be connected to multiple networking devices within a home such as PCs, portable media players, and MP3 players.

The result is that users can stream music and movies from these multimedia players onto their television set.

In other news, on Friday Broadcom Corporations settled a shareholder lawsuit for $118m that alleged it backdated illegally with its stock options.

This is in addition to the £12m penalty that the company paid in April of 2008 to the Securities and Exchange Commission for backdating in the past.
