sgtserve -> Suggestions for replacement drives (4/24/2009 1:19:29 PM)

I have a Rimage 2000i that has been in reliable service for quite a few years now. One of the 2 drives recently went bad, and we're hoping to replace both drives when we have the machine open.

The current drive(s) are Plextor PX-716a IDE drives. Obviously these aren't available at a reasonable price.

I haven't found many recommendations on a good all-around drive that just burns discs reliably, and is not too slow. Reading is NOT an issue for these drives, but I need drives that burn CD's and DVD's reliably. We use either Taiyo Yuden or Ridata Inkjet Printable media (they tend to work best in our additional stand-alone tower CD duplicator).

I would greatly appreciate anyone's suggestions

You can still get the PX-716A at www.esaitech.com but yeah, it's pricey. I'm currently using the PX-850SA and it has given me no problems. Yes I know, this is a new generation drive that Plextor designed with Lite-On, (Lite-On roxks BTW) but despite all the criticism, it works awesome!
