The Microsoft Sidewinder mouse is made for gamers. It sports features seen in many other so called performance mice, including adjustable weighs, switch on the fly DPI settings, and multiple programmable buttons. The mouse is wired, which is peculiar in this age of wireless?everything. There has been rumblings that this is due to concerns over performance lag experienced in wireless mice by professional gamers. Since Microsoft is quite adamantly trying to target that market - and their followers by proxy - out goes the wireless transmitter in favour of a good ol' USB cable.

It is not often as a reviewer that I get to talk about something exciting in the optical mouse department. That has changed with the addition of the Microsft Sidewinder USB Gaming Mouse. This is the first mouse which features an LED display of the DPI setting on the mouse. Combine that with weight system and repaceable mouse feet and you have a first class mosuse.

I set out at the beginning of this article to replace my 14 month old gaming mouse. It seemed to me a bit of a risk to go with Microsoft over someone like Logitech or Razor, who arguably have more experience when it comes to gaming mice. In fact he mouse I was replacing was from one of the above mentioned companies (I'm not going to say who). at the end of the day the Sidewinder mouse really comes across as a solid mouse with an excellent feature set. Couple that with Microsoft support and you have a product that you can rely on for years to come. The ability to customize so much about the mouse means that it's practically guaranteed to work for you. Whether you like a feather light mouse or one that takes a bit of effort to move you're covered. If you want to be able to chain in game commands together with a single button your set. If you're basically looking for a quality gaming mouse, look no further the SideWinder is it.

These days there are tons of gaming related devices available. For the most parts, these products can be dismissed as marketing tricks. These devices have nothing to do with gaming or they have a name of some famous gamer slapped on to them at best. This makes it hard for a gamer to decide what product is worth its asking price, as gaming related items tend to be more expensive than similar products without this labeling.

This new Microsoft SideWinder mouse has interesting features: the original shape allows a good and comfortably grip; with the additional weight and the replaceable mouse feet is possible to customize its behavior; the 2000 DPI resolution is more than sufficient for every necessity. The design of this mouse is "strange": you can love it for its particularity, or you can consider excessive the number of led lights, and useless the little LCD monitor. There are five configurable buttons: it's possible to register some commands or some macros, depending on the application used. It makes more easy and quick a lot of common operation that we do a lot of times every day. For a price around 65?, it's a good product if you are looking for a precise mouse, with a particular aesthetical aspect and very customizable.

Though the SideWinder is well featured, its numerous design issues and lack of appealing look and feel make it a disappointing return for the SideWinder brand.

The SideWinder Mouse has some cool features like an LCD display built-in and an included accessory box that doubles as a cable holder. Sensitivity is 200 to 2000 dpi and adjustable on-the-fly. The thumb buttons are strange looking metal buds stacked vertically on the right side of the mouse. At first glance, it seems like one of those poor design calls where you will be ever pressing the spot where your thumb buttons used to be. However, the buttons are very intuitive, the bottom one goes backwards, and the top goes forward. It takes all of a second to get used to the unorthodox layout.
