Silverstone's third Kublai mid tower chassis is made for aficionados and serious computer enthusiasts that require a high level component with no trade-offs for cooling and quietness. Following the designing concept of previous chassis from Kublai series, the KL03 also possess many features borrowed from the Temjin series. Constructed using steel and aluminum, this chassis strikes a great balance between external aesthetics and excellent structural rigidity. The Silverstone KL03 is a mid-priced case with a price online of $180~. At this price, the case has a lot going for it as it has the space of an EATX case while easily fitting long video cards like the X1950XTX and 9800GX2 video cards. With NVIDIA?s next generation GT280 cards rumored to be the same size, the need for a case like the KL03 is clear. The main negatives of the case include the inability to remove the FDD cage which means that if you don't have a FDD, those spots are pretty much wasted. The five hard drive bays are sufficient for most users but it would have been nice to include a sixth HDD bay instead of the second FDD drive bay which is redundant in any case as most people don't have a use for a floppy disk. The lack of a removable motherboard tray is also a minus. Overall, the faults with this case are minor, and you should seriously consider buying one if you?re looking for a Med-Tower case that will work with larger PSUs and video cards.

Last September we had our first encounter with the SilverStone Kublai series when reviewing the Kublai KL02. We found that the Kublai series, which is targeted at economically minded consumers, had inherited many traits from SilverStone's flagship Temjin series while costing much less. The build quality of the KL02 chassis was excellent for being a $150 case and it ended up receiving our approval. Following the success of the Kublai KL01 and KL02 cases, SilverStone has released the KL03 as another steel and aluminum chassis, but this time it comes with support for Extended ATX motherboards. In this review, we are looking at the SilverStone Kublai KL03 as we fill it up with dual AMD quad-core Barcelona processors and other high-end hardware.

The world is cluttered with the dead and dying remains of poorly designed, mass-produced OEM pc cases, but you won?t find one at my place. As a hardware enthusiast I expect more from my cases. There has to be plenty of space inside them. They have to be well-made. Cutting edge innovation isn't necessary, but I do prefer to see some thought going into the making of a case. To be honest, I'm quite tired of the cookie cutter cases some of the industry has been churning out over the last few years. Today I'm reviewing the Silverstone SST-KL03B-w. Will it make the grade? Silverstone is well-known for making quality enclosures, particularly for its high end cases, in both the full-tower and home theatre pc format. Given this pedigree, I expect this case will be no different.
