It's one of the smaller options in the expanding EliteBook family, yet also one of the most powerful. That's not a combination you hear of very often. In most circumstances, you'll need a larger machine in order to accommodate more powerful components within, mostly because the more powerful components emit more heat than the lower-end components. Hewlett-Packard, however, has managed to get a Core i7 Mobile processor within the frame of a 14" notebook and still keep the heat under control. Ah, the good ol' Shuttle PC. First launched almost a decade ago in the form of the SV24, the now-familiar form factor continues to offer today's latest technologies in an all-round smaller desktop package.
The latest iteration - the XPC Barebone SX58J3 - follows that trend and becomes the most powerful air-cooled Shuttle XPC to date.
Sold as a barebones unit, the £440 SX58J3 is essentially just a chassis fitted with a power supply and a motherboard, but what's interesting here is that Shuttle offers official support for Intel's latest desktop processors - including the wicked-fast Core i7 980X - and there's room for a high-end graphics card...or two.
Hexa-core processing and a proper gaming GPU on Intel's extreme X58 chipset, all in a 330mm x 215mm x 190mm form factor? Sounds like a space-saving powerhouse or the ultimate LAN-going gaming rig.

?Up until this point the solid state drives we have looked at have been limited to the SATA 3Gbps standard. While solid state drives are still much faster than normal hard drives we haven?t been able to really push them to their limits. The thing about Coolermaster and their engineers is they never seem to be at rest. To enhance on the features that made the HAF 932 famous Coolermaster has hit the market with the HAF X. The newest offering from the High Air Flow series is bigger (slightly), better and heavier than the HAF 932. Does that transform into another hit for Coolermaster? From the reactions to the press release on the case the answer to that question is a huge yes.
Like the HAF 932, the HAF X displays the same rugged style that gamers have come to love. The industrial look even appealing to me as much as I love the fine tuned lines of the ATCS 840 is awesome to look at. Offering more than looks the HAF X has features that the HAF 932 can only dream of. How do two HDD docks sound? How about USB 3.0 in the front display? Walton Chaintech, a company which manufactures lots of products like SSDs, Memory Modules, Memory Cards and Graphics Cards, does also produce Flash Drives. The AstroDrive 266X I have received for review is the smallest in the series, maroon colored. The flash drive has very good performances right out of the box, but Walton Chaintech also included a special utility on the drive to boost the performance even more.
