"The Power Edition is MSI's way of offering up a balance between overclocked performance off the shelf and great value for that performance at the same time. This is not to mean that cut backs have been in other areas however. With these cards we still see the same high level of quality that we would with any other card including the feature of MSI's Twin Frozr cooler and Military Class III components."

"We've had a look at the GTX 465 in a decent amount of detail. We've covered it from stock to overclock and single to SLI. The mid range nature of the card means that companies are going to mix it up more so than some of the higher end models, too. While we've seen Galaxy use a new cooler on the card, today it's time to see what MSI have done with it. Coming in as part of the Twin Frozr II series which has impressed us in the past, we're sure that MSI is going to give us something to get a bit excited about here."

Today we get the chance to analyse a product with some jaw dropping specifications, the MSI R5870 Lightning. This card has a custom PCB design and incorporates the worlds first 15 phase PWM design to offer higher levels of overclocking and stability. This is why they cranked it to 900mhz on the core (+50mhz on reference design) and 1200mhz on the memory (4.8GBps effective).

"The MSI Big Bang XPower will support up to six single slot graphics cards for some hefty multi-monitor use. It also supports the latest Quad-SLI and CrossFireX technology from NVIDIA and ATI. If you are looking to do some extreme overclocking with the new Intel Core I7 980X you will need a board that can supply enough power. Under Extreme overclocking conditions the I7 980X can draw around 480 Watts, which is too much for a single 8pin cpu connector to supply. The MSI Big Bang XPower was designed for such a circumstance! The keen folks over at MSI added a second 8pin CPU connector to the Big Bang XPower! There should be no issues with power when pushing the latest processors to the maximum frequencies. They also decided to add a 6pin PCI-e which will aid when overclocking the graphics cards!"

"Launched in January, the Redwood core represents ATI's third chip in the Evergreen series. Using a 40nm die size, coupled with only 64W peak power, 14W idle, and a sub-$100 price, the 5670 is poised somewhere between the previous 4670 and 4770 in performance. MSI offers three versions of the 5670, a 512Mb card, a 1Gb card, and the one we have for review today, the 1Gb Cyclone. Although all three cards use an improved cooler rather than the reference single-slot design, the Cyclone ups the ante with a dual heatpipe arrangement similar to their 4000-series high-end coolers."

"MSI are hitting us hard and fast with new models that have been standing out compared to the competition. No doubt this is the joys of working with both NVIDIA and ATI, though, because it seems that in the near future we'll get upgraded versions of the new GTX 400 series cards from the company, too. Today however, we're looking at something not quite as high end; a bit of a love it, hate it kind of card, depending on how you look at it. The HD 5830 to some is a model that is spot on to their budget; to others it's too expensive and they think a HD 5850 is a better option. Maybe a HD 5850 is a better option, but if your budget is your budget then it doesn't matter and there's no denying it's faster than the HD 5770."

Not every computer needs to have a four million hertz processor and the world's best video card. Just like power tools, some jobs require raw power while other jobs require more finesse. When the job at hand involves video, web applications, light gaming or light office work it doesn't make sense to use a supercomputer or even a high-performance machine. This idea has become mainstream through the recent marketing of netbooks (internet notebooks) and video sharing devices, but even those platforms do not suit all light application needs. In this article Benchmark Reviews will test a nettop (internet desktop) from MSI; Wind Box model 6667BB-004US. This barebones PC kit is like an older, more capable sibling to the netbook. But how does it measure up against other alternatives?

MSI's HD 5830 Twin Frozr II uses a shiny metal heatsink that comes with two fans to keep the card cool. In our testing we see nice overclocking potential of around 20% which can easily bring the card to new performance levels.

"Overall, the MSI Wind U230 is a great netbook with a solid construction feel that we like to see in any notebook. The adoption to 12.1" LCD screen is something we have seen evolve over the past year from the previously standard 10" screen size on netbooks. The market seems to have demanded a 12" netbook and companies like MSI have answered the call. We must also commend MSI for offering a netbook featuring the AMD Athlon Neo X2 L335 processor and the AMD 'Congo' platform. It definitely brought some excitement back in the netbook market as this chip is a viable competitor to the dual core Intel Atom counter-parts. We were very impressed with the U230's dominating performance..."

"Although AMD's latest chipset the 890GX, codename RS880D, is very similar to last year's 785G - RS880, the most striking improvement is the addition of a new southbridge, the SB850. Supporting USB 3.0 and SATA 3.0, the SB850 opens up much needed additional bandwidth for faster external accessories and solid state drives. While many 890GX boards utilize a full size ATX format, MSI's initial offering is the 890GXM-G65, a microATX style. The 890GX offers integrated graphics, using the RV620 graphics core, which supports DirectX 10.1, Shader Model 4.1 and a host of video decoding and acceleration formats. CrossFire is supported but the 16 available lanes must be split into a dual 8X configuration. Hybrid CrossFire is also available, allowing use of a HD5450 discrete video card to be paired with the onboard for up to a 25% improvement in gaming performance."

"This motherboard can be recommended to users who upgrade rarely and have no need for the latest innovations. Consider this solution, if, upgrading, you tend to use as many older parts you already have as possible."

In the area of graphics display cards, MSI had great success with its Lightning series during last year's CeBIT, on offer this year is a brand new evolution of the product line, represented by the R5870 Lightning. This new product not only inherits the same high performance of its predecessors but also adopts a number of unprecedented initiatives in graphics display technology. It is a marvel of craftsmanship that has been engineered exclusively for overclocking.

With the GeForce GTX 275 Lightning MSI shows a card where absolutely no compromises hae been made. The card should be faster and quieter than every other 275 GTX. The card is everything else but not reference design and especially the ten plus two phase power design should be able to convince enthusiasts and overclockers.

In terms of features the MSI R5770 video card has other 5770 cards beat as it has the extra cooling, V-points and Rivatuner (Afterburner). The card is excellent in performance with performance that outstrips the competition from NVIDIA and DirectX 11 which cannot be done on NVIDIA cards that are released so far.ATI is selling a lot of DirectX 11 video cards and as the year progresses without a competitive card for this price point, they will sell more. MSI is offering this video card for free for those purchasing a Fusion motherboard if you register and are among the first 100 purchasers of the combination. The 5770 card?s NVIDIA competition is just not there.
