4x DVD±RW Roundup Vol.1 (Teac DV-W50D & Memorex Dual-X1)

3. Data CD Reading Tests

Teac DV-W50D and Memorex Dual-X1 - Page 3

Data CD Reading Tests

- Pressed CD results (CD Speed Graphs for Teac DV-W50D and Memorex Dual-X1)

Both drives support 32x CAV reading for CD-ROM/-R media. As we can see from the CD Speed results in the graph above both drives have approximately the same performance with the 80min pressed disc. The reported start reading speed was 15.04x for Teac and 15.01x for Memorex while the end speed was 33.03x and 33.97x respectively.

In the same task, the seek times for Teac are lower which means that is faster than Memorex. At the Random mode the difference wasn't very big but in the other two modes the 8ms difference is a considerable value.

- CDR Media results (CD Speed Graphs for Teac DV-W50D and Memorex Dual-X1)

With the 80min CD-R media the results are almost the same with the previous test. Both drives needed the same time to finish the task , with reported average speed 25.54X for Teac and 25.56X for Memorex.

In the graph above we can see the seek time for all modes of both drives with an 80min CD-R media. Teac is again a little faster than Memorex but not with great differences.

- HS-RW Media (CD Speed Graphs for Teac DV-W50D and Memorex Dual-X1)

For the RW reading test we used an Asus 4x-12X HS-RW media and Nero CDSpeed software. Ending the test we saw that the drives had similar performance results with a slight difference at the start speed which was 15.44X for Teac and 14.66 for Memorex. End and average speed was almost the same.
