Data Tests
- Test Method
* SCSI Mechanic v3.0x: This was used to compare the drive's I/O performance
against other various CDR-W drives (see charts). We used a pressed CD containing
PlexTools v1.08 for all tests.
* Nero CD Speed v0.84b was also used to check the drive's performance
with pressed CDs. For that test, we also used the PlexTools v1.08 pressed CD.
- SCSI Mechanic v3.0x results
Both ASUS and WAITEC drives have similar performance as was expected. The
ASUS CRW2410S seems slightly faster than WAITEC MEGALUS , possibly due to the
newer firmware revision. Both drives are faster than TEAC CD-W524E but slower
than PleXWriter PX-W2410A.
- Nero CD Speed v0.84 results
The Nero CD Speed results confirmed our previous tests results. In this test,
both ASUS CRW2410S and WAITEC MEGALUS had the exact same performance. The TEAC
CD-W524E stays behind and the PleXWriter PX-W2410A holds the first place.
The seek times of ASUS and WAITEC drives should be considered rather high
compared to the TEAC CD-W524E, which has the lowest in the industry. Both drives
have around 125ms performance. The PleXWriter needs improvement in this particular
test to reach the competition.
- PSX Pressed Media
For this test we used the PSX game 'NBA Jam Extreme' and we ripped the image
to HD with CloneCD. We measured the reading time of the ASUS CRW2410S and WAITEC
MEGALUS. Both drives need 273ses to end the task when the PleXWriter PX-W2410A
does the same task at only 54secs. Only the TEAC CD-W524E is slower with 330secs:
- CDR Media
The ASUS and WAITEC MEGALUS drives improved their reading performance with
CDR media. Both drives have 31.19X average reading speed, which is again faster
than TEAC CD-W524E but slower than PleXWriter PX-W2410A.
