Introduction - Retail package
Over the past years, Abit has been the brand of choice for hardware enthusiasts
worldwide. Fairly recently, Abit released a new series of motherboards for
the 939 socket series of AMD processors. Along with the desktop motherboard
AV8 and AX8, Abit released a server motherboard series as well. One of the
entry level server motherboards is the Abit SV-1A server board that arrived
at our labs for review.
The SV-1A is positioned as an entry level storage server with maximized compromise
between price and performance.
It is designed for the AMD 64-bit architecture to enhance overall system performance.
The on-board Marvell 88SX-6081 SATA II controller and VIA 8237 chipset support
up to ten SATA devices to improve server performance in dealing with
amounts of information transfer and frequent data access. Furthermore, three
64-bit PCI-X backward compatible PCI bus expansion slots bring the benefits
of upgrade flexibility.
