Two New DVD+RW Alliance Disc Verification Labs open in Japan

Two additional verification labs have opened in Japan, Sony (Tokyo) and Ricoh (Tokyo), to test newly developed DVD+R, DVD+R DL and DVD+RW discs from media manufacturers. To date, the only verification lab was located at Philips in Holland which will remain as the final verification point for the media.

The labs will test newly developed manufacturers media to verify compliance with the standard specifications. A verification report will indicate improvements in production processes and product quality as well as the optimal writing strategy to be applied by DVD writers for the specific disc. DVD+R and DVD+RW media include writing strategy information in the ADIP (address in pre-groove) information on the disc, which all DVD+R/+RW recorders and DVD+R/+RW writers can use for the best writing strategy for the specific manufacturer's media. Only DVD+R or DVD+RW media that passes certification receives the certificate of conformance and is allowed to use the DVD+R, DVD+R DL or DVD+RW logo.
