DVD Forum officially approves the DualDisc standard

The hybrid disc has DVD-audio and DVD video on one side, and CD content on the other.

Major players such as Sony Music, Warner Music, EMI, Universal, have already tested titles. The disc is identical in size to a CD or DVD disc. It will give consumers the option of playing the disc in either a CD player or DVD player.

It will also be interesting to see how DualDisc affects the DVD-Audio market, where it will be possible for discs to offer video, supplementary materials, Compact Disc, high-resolution and even AAC content all in one package.
