Sipex introduces new photo detector IC for mobile DVD writers

Sipex, a U.S provider of high performance, analog integrated circuits (ICs), today announced its latest photo detector IC, custom-designed to enable low-profile DVD-writable drives. The SP8056 is offered in a small 3.5mm x 4.0mm package, allowing convenient implementation in slim and ultra- slim form factor drives.

A proprietary hologram-laser optimized photo detector array captures light and drives 4 high-speed data detection channels, 2 medium-speed channels, and 2 slow channels. Ten selectable gain settings ensure maximum compatibility with multiple standards of writable media including DVD-RAM. Additionally, the device offers two 130MHz differential data summing outputs and a low-power sleep mode for power conservation in portable applications.
