Canon to release professional digital camera with 8.2-megapixel CMOS sensor

Slated to hit the market in late April, the EOS-1D Mark II is Canon's latest digital single-lens reflex camera that features an 8.2-megapixel CMOS sensor.

The new product can shoot pictures at 8.5 frames per second even during maximum bursts of 40 shots. Its newly developed, state-of-the-art DIGIC II imaging engine achieves crisp, high-resolution images with natural colors and rich gradations.

The camera comes with a CF and an SD Memory card slots, and a 2-inch 230,000-pixel LCD monitor. The 1220g product measures 156x157.6x79.9mm, and is open-priced.

Also available is the DVK-E2 Data Verification Kit. Priced at 98,000 yen ($925), the kit includes EOS Viewer Utility for faster image preview and Digital Photo Professional for high-speed processing.

Canon intend to produce 4,000 units of the EOS-1D Mark II and 100 packages of the DVK-E2 Data Verification Kit per month.
