Philips JackRabbit 4 to support DVD burning

Philips plans to continue the successful series of the JackRabbit drives, with the upcoming JackRabbit 4. The new drive is expected to hit the market in November 2003. Mobility and fast plug and play capabilities are the important features of the drive, as well as DVD Video, VCD, AudioCD playback and CD and DVD+R/RW burning.

The supported writing speed for DVD+R media is the 4X, while the DVD+RW will be burned at 2.4X max. CD-R recording will be achieved at 16x maximum, and 10x for the CD-RW. The device is also capable of reading DVD-ROM's at 12X and CD-ROM/-R at 40X.

The suggested connection interface is the USB 2.0. USB 1.1 is also supported but this will limit the drives performance due to lower allowed transfer rates.

As with the previous JackRabbit model, the Jack Rabbit 4 can be used either as a drive connected to your PC or notebook, or just operate as a stand-alone DVD player.

The drive plays DVD videos connected to your TV set, as well as and audio CDs and MP3 connected to your stereo. A remote control is also available when you use the Jackrabbit as a stand-alone device.

The price of the JackRabbit is expected to be approximately 350 euro.
