SONY announces new laser diodes for CD/DVD formats

Sony Japan announced a new two-wave laser diode that supports writing to CD & DVD formats. The new laser diodes have diameter package of 5.6mm and 3mm thick package. There will be three products, "SLD6461VL" (100mW CD output / 215 mW/DVD output), "SLD6361VL" (100mW CD output / 7 mW/DVD output). The prices are expect around 3500 (SLD6461VLT) and 3,500 yen (SLD6361VL).

SONY announcement continues "...With the hybrid mounting technology which puts a laser element in order with high precision and mounts it on the same board, it succeeded in the same package-ization of 780nm belt for CD, and 650nm belt laser for DVD. This says that the miniaturization of an optical pickup is attained. Moreover, since a thin shape [ the product of the part number end VLT ] as 3mm in thickness, the design of the optical disk drive of the same 9.5mm 厚 as HDD is attained.

The CD side -- 215mW side and the DVD side -- 100mW -- both -- high -- for [ which SLD / 出力 /6461 combines with record reproduction of CD and DVD ] optical disk drives. Moreover, 100mW SLD6361 is taken as those for DVD recorders with CD reproduction function the 7mW and DVD side the CD side..."
