Adaptec ships MyDVD to retailers

Sonic Solutions announced today that Adaptec, Sonic's retail partner for its popular MyDVD software, is now shipping MyDVD Video Suite to U.S. retailers including Best Buy Canada, Circuit City, CompUSA, Future Shop, London Drugs, and Micro Center. MyDVD is the most widely-used consumer software for recording and sharing videos and photos on DVD, and it is bundled by leading manufacturers of PCs, DVD recorders and graphics and video cards including Adaptec, Compaq, Dell, Hewlett-Packard, NEC, Panasonic, Philips, Pioneer, Sony, TDK and others.

Circuit City, which will be carrying MyDVD in approximately 550 stores in the U.S., has been one of the industry's most successful retailers of DVD. "The consumer appetite for DVDs has been extremely strong," said Clif Denney, Vice President and General Merchandise Manager for Circuit City. "We're very pleased to add MyDVD to our shelves because it gives our customers the satisfaction of creating great-looking DVDs of their own videos with much of the same 'Hollywood' flare that they get with movies on DVD."

In May, Sonic announced that it had entered into an agreement under which Adaptec would distribute MyDVD through Adaptec's worldwide distribution network. "Interest in MyDVD has been very strong throughout our retail channels," said Jeff Loebbaka, VP and General Manager of Adaptec's Desktop Solutions Group. "MyDVD delivers industry leading DVD creation capabilities in a solution that is easy for consumers to use. That, along with the fact that Sonic has the strongest franchise among PC and drive OEMs offers retailers a great opportunity to sell new and expanded versions of MyDVD to a large installed base of users."

"We're very excited to be launching MyDVD into retail channels," said Dave Habiger, Senior Vice President & General Manager of Sonic's Desktop Products Group. "Our retail partnership with Adaptec provides us with widespread penetration into the key accounts. Sonic has shipped over 2 million copies of our consumer DVD authoring software, and now both new and existing users can purchase the latest MyDVD version from their local retailers."
