Huawei Could Release 512GB and Blockchain-Ready Smartphone

Huawei, the world's third-biggest handset maker, seems to be ready to launch the first phone with 512GB of space, and it also rumored to considering developing a mobile phone that will be able to run blockchain-based applications.

Currently, most high-end smartphones today have 256GB of emmory onboard, but an upcoming Huawei phone appeared on the Chinese regulatory agency TENAA's website and shows that the device will have 6GB of RAM and a whopping 512GB of storage. It's probably not the forthcoming P20.

Samsung started to make 512GB drives for phones back in December.

Seperately, Huawei is considering developing a mobile phone that will be able to run blockchain-based applications, according to Bloomberg.

The China-based company is in talks to license Sirin Labs' operating system, called SIRIN OS, to run blockchain applications alongside Android system, the report said.

Blockchain is a decentralized ledger used to record cryptocurrency transactions. It has been mostly related to the cryptocurrency market, but it seems that technology is slowly closer to the mass market.

Huawei holds leading positions in telecoms gear, smartphones, cloud computing and cybersecurity. It's now stepping up an expansion into overseas markets such as Europe and is said to be in talks with U.S. carriers about selling its phones in the country.
