TDK shipping its first ever portable VeloCD burner, plus new 40x USB 2.0 external drives

Expanding its position as a premier supplier of high-performance CD burners, TDK today announced it has begun shipping two new veloCD rewriters, including the company's first portable model, the sleekly styled Firewire/IEEE-1394 external veloCD (Model FP-241032), as well as the external 40X veloCD USB 2.0 burner (Model UE-401248) - the industry's fastest external recordable CD drive. Both new TDK veloCD burners offer unmatched performance, reliability and ease-of-use for PC and Macintosh users, and now, laptop users as well.

The first thing you notice about TDK's new portable veloCD is its sleek, attractive form factor, an innovation in style that earned it a Consumer Electronics Association's prestigious Innovations Award for excellence in design and engineering at the 2002 Consumer Electronics Show.

Measuring just 7" x 5.5" x 1.25" (HxWxD), the compact FP-241032 delivers the high-performance capabilities to match its breakthrough design, offering 24X write, 10X rewrite, and 32X read/rip speeds-fast enough to burn a complete CD-R in just four minutes. Adding to its utility and flexibility, the FP-241032 features FireWire/IEEE-1394 connectivity, for use with both Windows and Mac OS-based laptops and computers.

Easy to connect and use, TDK's new portable veloCD is the perfect "go anywhere" portable for business travelers, telecommuters, students and music enthusiasts who need a high-speed, ultra-reliable CD burner. And like all TDK veloCD burners, this portable burner features Buffer Underrun Protection, which eliminates buffer underrun errors for perfect recordings every time-even during multitasking operations.

Noted Randall Rosenbaum, TDK's Product Manager: "Thanks to the skyrocketing sales of notebook computers, which have increased more than 30 percent compared to this time last year, the demand for a high-performance portable CD burner is stronger than ever. Our new portable drive answers the need for an ultimate-performance, carry-along CD burner that can easily connect to a notebook, bringing all the advantages of TDK veloCD technology to a wider range of computer users than ever before. We also intend to continue leading the way in laptop peripherals, with the planned introduction of a USB 2.0 enabled portable unit by summer's end."

TDK's External Desktop veloCD USB 2.0: The Fastest Ever

The TDK UE-401248 external USB 2.0 veloCD burner offers the fastest performance of any external recordable CD drive in the industry, with blazingly fast 40X write, 12X rewrite and 48X data read speeds. Equally important for music-passionate computer users, the new veloCD is capable of ripping CD audio tracks at 48X, with bit-perfect musical accuracy. In addition to USB 2.0 connectivity, the UE-401248 is also compatible with computers equipped with a USB 1.1 port (delivering 4X writing speed when connected to USB 1.1-based systems).

The World's Best Music Management and Recording Software

Like all TDK veloCD burners, both new models come complete with TDK's CD Blender software suite, consisting of TDK Digital MixMaster music management and recording software, plus NeroTM 5.5 CD recording software, InCDTM drag-and-drop packet writing software and other useful utilities.

Digital MixMaster gives users a convenient jukebox interface, easily customizable with a broad range of colorful graphic "skins." It handles day-to-day music management and recording functions including CD playback, ripping, MP3 playback, Internet-accessed track labeling and CD recording (including on-the-fly conversion of computer music files and playlists into play-anywhere CDs).

Also included for PC users is Nero 5.5 multimedia recording software. Nero makes it easy to copy virtually every type of CD-ROM and CD audio disc, including multisession discs and several new hybrid formats. Nero can also be used to create VideoCDs (VCD) of home movies or a slide show of photos, and can even control two veloCD burners simultaneously. The portable FP-241032 is also bundled with Roxio's Toast software for use with Macintosh operating systems.

Both the TDK 24X portable FireWire/IEEE-1394 veloCD FP-241032 and the 40X external USB 2.0 veloCD UE-401248 are currently available at an estimated street price of $199.
