Roxio upgrades CD Creator

CD-burning software maker Roxio Thursday released its latest version of its Easy CD Creator. The 5.1 Platinum program now supports a variety of DVD formats including DVD-R, DVD-RW, DVD-RAM and DVD+RW, in addition to providing complete Windows XP compatibility.

The software is available now in English and sells for $99 only at retail computer stores. The company said will release the Windows-based software in other languages soon.

Milpitas, Calif.-based Roxio is best known for its Easy CD Creator (for Windows) and Toast (for Macintosh) as well as GoBack, a system recovery software that lets PC users to "go back" in time to instantly recover from system crashes, virus attacks, failed software installations and data loss.

But recently, the company acquired MGI's PhotoSuite (photo editing software) and VideoWave (video editing tool), which helped lead to the upgrades to Easy CD Creator 5.1 Platinum.

"Roxio strives to provide consumers the features they want most in their CD recording software," said Tom Shea, chief operating officer at Roxio. "Easy CD Creator 5.1 addresses our customers current need for DVD support and out-of-the-box Windows XP compatibility."
