QPS unveils new burners, duplicators, drives

QPS is taking the wraps off several products at this week's Macworld San Francisco, including a new DVD+RW burner, a DVD duplicator, and new FireWire combo and RAID drives...

The company is showing off one of the first next-generation DVD+RW burner: the FireWire Que! DVDBurner+RW. QPS spokesperson Jeffrey Swartz said it features the only rewritable format that's fully compatibility with existing DVD set top video players and DVD-ROM drives. The FireWire Que! DVD Burner + RW writes 4.38GB of data and rewrites discs up to 1,000 times.

It also boasts new "loss less linking," which purportedly offers accurate writing technology that reduces errors and retains more usable disc space than before. The US$649 FireWire Que! DVD Burner + RW provides both real-time video recording for making DVD movies and true random data recording for huge back-up jobs and for archiving data and images. A new quick-formatting feature lets you write discs immediately and format in the background.

QPS is also introducing its standalone 2-bay and 5-bay Que! DVD Dupe Towers. You can load DVD or CD materials, set the copy functions, and the towers will duplicate two or five discs simultaneously. An LCD display leads you through the duplication modes, which include simple copy, copy and compare, simulation, verify master, audio extraction and other functions. The display also shows copy status and lets you control copy speeds.

The 2-bay Que! DVD Dupe Tower features two combo DVD Burner/DVD-RW/CD-RW drives plus an internal hard drive. The 5-bay Que! Dupe Tower features a DVD-ROM, four DVDBurner/DVD-R/DVD-RAM drives and an internal hard drive that offers versatile authoring and storage to DVD-R and DVD-RAM media. The manufacturers suggested retail price for the 2-bay Dupe Tower is $1,499 and $4,99 for the 5-bay Dupe Tower. Both are available now.

Finally, QPS is debuting its external Que! Firewire M5 Combo and RAID drives. The Que! M5 Combo includes a combination of CD-RW and hard drive storage while the RAID drive includes two large-capacity hard drives.

The external $379 M5 Combo FireWire drive combines a 60 GB 5,400 RPM or larger capacity hard drive with a 8x8x24 CD-RW back-up drive. It includes Dantz Retrospect Express back up software, Charismac's Anubis hard disk management utility, and Dicribe CD mastering software.

The Que! M5 RAID Drives include two A/V-rated large-capacity drives that are available in FireWire interface and in SCSI LVD. The Que! M5 Fire RAID Drives capacities are 200GB, 240GB and 320GB, while the Que! M5 SCSI RAID Drives capacities are 72GB and 146GB. The bundled software lets you create striped and mirrored RAIDs for even faster performance. (Striped drives increase performance by allowing files to be split and stored on different hard disks and then read back in tandem for faster throughput). Pricing is dependent on configuration.
