Microsoft Confirms no new Features Coming in Windows Phone

Microsoft has finally confirmed that it is no longer developing new features or hardware for Windows 10 Mobile OS, which is entering into a servicing mode.

"Of course we'll continue to support the platform.. bug fixes, security updates," tweeted Joe Belfiore, Corporate Vice President in the Operating Systems Group at Microsoft. "But building new features/hw aren't the focus."

Belfiore admitted that he also switched to Android, just like Bill Gates, and that Microsoft will support Windows 10 customers who want to use Android and iOS on their phones.

"We have tried very hard to incent app devs," explains Belfiore. "Paid money.. wrote apps 4 them.. but volume of users is too low for most companies to invest."

Microsoft had never officially admitted that the Windows Phone was dead before.

Looking ahead, Microsoft is bringing Windows features to established smartphone platforms in the form of standalone apps. The software giant recently announced an Edge browser for both iOS and Android.
