CDRInfo uncovers Yamaha's CRW3200 series…

Yamaha will introduce at late October/early November another recorder series which will support 24x writing speed! The drive's codename is "CRW3200x" and will support:

24x, 20x, 16x writing speeds (P-CAV)
10x re-writing (CLV)
40x reading (CAV)
8MB of Buffer
Supports SafeBURN
Supports Optimum Write Control
Supports CD-Text

The drive uses OAK's OTI-9797 controller which is capable of 24X CD-R and 24X CD-RW write speeds as well as 40X CD-ROM read speeds, and it provides an upgrade path to 32X recording speeds. The OAK's chipset is also the first to implement support for the pending Mt. Rainier standard in hardware for best packet writing performance. The OTI-9797 employs partial and full Constant Angular Velocity (CAV).

The drive will start writing at 16x and will increase it's writing speed up to 24x (at 24mins) making it however, slower than the existing 24x Zone-CLV recorders. The drive will have the same anti-buffer underrun system (8MB+SafeBURN) and Yamaha promises perfect quality CDs, even at 24x writing speed with P-CAV writing technology. The drive's price is unknown. The expected connection interfaces are: ATAPI, SCSI, USB 2.0 and of course FireWire!
