TEAC ships portable DVD-ROM drive

TEAC announces the availability of a new Portable 8X DVD-ROM drive.

TEAC's Portable 8X DVD-ROM drive delivers 8X performance for video playback and 24X for CD-ROM. Its average access time is 110ms(90ms for CD-ROM).As for the data buffer it reaches the 512KB.

Weighing just over one pound, the drive is approximately the same size as most portable audio CD players. It connects to a notebook PC by a universal PCMCIA Type II connector that provides plug-and-play connection.

The TEAC DVD-ROM can be powered from an integrated rechargeable battery pack. In addition, the drive can draw power directly from the PCMCIA connection or from its AC adapter, while continuously recharging itself. A switch on the side of the drive allows the user to select the desired power source. The drive also comes with video player software that decodes multiple video and audio formats.

Based on TEAC's internal DV-28E, a slim 8X DVD-ROM drive designed to be installed inside notebook systems, the external 8X DVD-ROM is available as a complete kit that supports Windows 98/Me and Windows 2000 Professional at an MSRP of $299.00.
