Facebook To Release Service For Professionals

Facebook at Work, Facebook's professional version of its social network, is expected to launch in the coming months.

The new service maintains the scrolling news "feed", "likes" and the chat service met in the currently available version of Facebook. But users will maintain special profiles that are distinct from their existing Facebook profiles, Julien Codorniou, director of global platform partnerships at Facebook, told Reuters. It will also
include security tools.

Facebook started beta-testing the service in January and has kept it as a free, "invite-only" service for companies so far.

The service will not be free, as companies will be charged "a few dollars per month per user" for premium services such as analytics and customer support, a Facebook spokeswoman said.

Seperately, Facebook announced it is launching two changes to its Android mobile app with the goal of making News Feed a better experience for users with slow Internet speeds globally.

You can also now compose comments on posts when you are offline. The comments will appear to your friends when you next get a good internet connection.

These changes impact News Feed ranking. Stories will still be ranked by relevance, and the update prevents users from seeing a spinning icon instead of posts.

Facebook said it will be testing the new features and rolling them out gradually to gather feedback. The company said the same changes should come to its iOS app soon.
