Ricoh Announces 12X Multi-Speed CD-Recordable Media

"..Ricoh's Disc Media and Systems-Center has introduced an ultra high-speed 12X media designed to support the first 12X CD-Recorders. It will begin shipping in mid-February. Called Ricoh Platinum, the 12X multi-speed media also records at lower speeds, delivers 700MB for an extra 50 MB of storage or approximately 80 minutes of audio recording, and is one of the few recordable media manufactured in the United States.

The new media will be sold via Ricoh's e-commerce site and through other e-commerce vendors. MSRP is $38.99 per 25-disc pack and is also available through VAR and OEM channels where Ricoh is a major supplier. This media sales strategy allows Ricoh to sell super premium media at cost competitive prices.

The Platinum multi-speed CD-R media is based on Ricoh's advanced Phthalocyanine organic dye formula and includes enhancements in the base groove, recording and reflective layer thickness. The enhancements produce very low jitter characteristics, wider power margins at 1x and 12X speeds and a higher tolerance for recording variations. (When jitter rates are high and power margins low, block error rates (BLER) escalate).."
