Toshiba to Release Wearable Biological Sensor

Toshiba this Fall will release in Japan a wearable biological sensor that can be attached to human body and measure pulse waves ad body temperature.

Toshiba hopes that the 15g sensor -- sized at 64 x 28 x 9.6mm - could attract universities, research institutes and enterprises. Though it is not a medical product, it could be used for verification tests and evaluation.

The sensor can measure an electrocardiogram, pulse waves, body motions and skin temperature at the same time. It is attached to the chest with a gel pad. The results can be displayed on a smartphone or a tablet computer via Bluetooth.

The device can be continuously used for about 24 hours and complies with IPX5/IPX7 (waterproof) standards.
