Google President Visits Cuba To Promote Internet

Top Google executives are reporedly visiting Cuba for the first time to promote open Internet access.

Jared Cohen, director of Google Ideas, Brett Perlmutter, Dan Keyserling and Google Executive Chairman Eric Schmidt met with Cuban academics and officials, according to a report on the independent news website 14ymedio.com.

Schmidt confirm the report when he retweeted a message on Twitter posted by the blogger that first reported it.

People in Cuba are not alllowed to have open Internet access. Internet is routed through government-run centers, and only foreign companies and hotels can enjoy wed surfing, although even that access is limited to government-approved websites.
