Huawei Develops 10Gbps Wi-Fi

Huawei has successfully achieved a 10Gbps Wi-Fi service in laboratory trials at Huawei?s campus in Shenzhen.

This speed is 10 times faster than the fastest existing Wi-Fi capability commercially available today.

The 10Gbps Wi-Fi prototype achieved a record transmission data rate of 10.53Gbps on 5GHz frequency bands. Huawei believes that ultrafast Wi-Fi could become commercially available from 2018 pending the agreement of global standards requirements and sufficient chipset availability.

SK Telecom, Korea's biggest mobile carrier, also vowed on May 29 to come up with the fifth-generation telecommunication technology by 2020. The company said Tuesday it has developed a new wireless local network dubbed "2 Frequency Assignment Giga WiFi" which has double the bandwidth capacity of the existing WiFi algorithm which the company launched last year.

The new technology is available on all devices that support the latest fifth-generation WiFi standard 802.11ac starting from the latter half of this year, the mobile carrier said.

KT's latest wireless local network technology, dubbed "Giga WiFi," is also capable of transmitting up to 450 megabytes per second, combining the existing WiFi network to the long-term evolution (LTE) network.
