Yahoo to Phase Out Support For Facebook, Google IDs In Its Services

Yahoo will gradually stop letting consumers access its online services by signing-in with their Facebook or Google credentials.

Instead, Yahoo is promoting its own log-in system and will require Yahoo users to register for a Yahoo ID.

The company says that a single account and password for all Yahoo products across devices would result to faster customer support and account assistance along with easier password recovery.

The first Yahoo service to require the new sign-in process is Yahoo Sports Tourney Pick'Em, a service focused on the NCAA college basketball tournament which begins later this month.

The sign-in buttons for Facebook and Google will eventually be removed from all Yahoo properties, although Yahoo did not provide a timeframe.
