AMD at 2014 CES

AMD delivers a technology showcase at CES, showcasing products powered by the latest AMD APU and graphics technologies, gaming on a variety of devices including tablets and the latest game consoles and new PCs supporting both Microsoft Windows and Google Android applications.

The star of the show is the "Surround House 2: Monsters in the Orchestra," a 360-degree surround-computing demonstration that leverages the computing capabilities of AMD technologies to create an audiovisual and interactive experience.

"We live in an exciting new world where computing is everywhere and transforming our daily lives," said Lisa Su, senior vice president and general manager, AMD Global Business Units. "AMD is at the heart of the innovations, driving a vision of 'Surround Computing' to provide the most visually compelling, immersive experiences in gaming, the next-generation of PCs, and the cloud. We are truly re-defining modern computing with our customers and ecosystem partners here at CES."

2014 AMD at CES Highlights:

- "Kaveri" - AMD's most powerful APUs ever, the AMD A10 7860K and 7700K (codenamed "Kaveri"), are now shipping and will be on shelves in desktops early next week, with pre-orders starting today from select system builders. "Kaveri" is the first APU to include Heterogeneous System Architecture (HSA) features, the sound of AMD TrueAudio Technology and the performance gaming experiences of Mantle API. "Kaveri"-based notebooks will be available in the first half of this year.

Kaveri supports HSA's unified memory architecture called HUMA, in which different memory types in a system are accessible to all processors. The HUMA specification will bring together the CPU and GPU memory, which will increase the total available memory in a system. The addition of a discrete GPU will increase performance even more.

AMD A10-7000 series processors have 4 "Steamroller" CPU cores, 4 MB L2 cache and 95 Watt Thermal Design Power. The A10-7700K has the maximum Turbo Core frequency of 3.8 GHz. The pre-order price of this part is $167. The flagship A10-7850K has a 4GHz maximum Turbo Core speed and has the number of Radeon cores increased to 512. The chip is priced at $173.

The Kaveri can have up to 12 compute cores, which includes both the CPU cores and the GCN modules.

New dual-core A4-6320 and A6-6420K microprocessors are based on older "Piledriver" architecture. Both chips come with 1 MB L2 cache and 65 Watt TDP. The A6-6420K offers 100 MHz higher maximum Turbo Core speed than the A6-6400K. The A4-6320 is listed with 3.9 GHz maximum clock, that is the same as the A4-6300. Pre-order prices of the A4-6320 and A6-6420K are $57.30 and $78.50.

All new processors should work in socket FM2+ motherboards. Below you see the basic spaces of the new chips:

- "Discovery Project" - The "Discovery Project" features AMD's upcoming low-power "Mullins" APU in a tablet, game controller and productivity dock created to demonstrate the full capabilities of AMD's technologies.

- Android OS Experience on Windows - AMD and its technology partner BlueStacks announced a new joint solution bringing the full Android OS experience to Windows-based tablets, 2-in-1s, notebooks and desktops optimized for third-generation AMD APUs. The solution allows Android to run virtually within Windows, eliminating the need to disengage from one OS before using another, and provides familiar Android interfaces, app support and direct file sharing, giving Android apps access to files stored within the Windows file system.

- Mantle - The first public demonstration of DICE's "Battlefield 4" running AMD's Mantle on a 4K display. Show-goers can also experience Oxide Games' "StarSwarm" demo for their "Nitrous" game engine, which also uses Mantle, when visiting AMD's booth.

- New AMD Radeon R9/R7/R5 M200 Series GPUs - AMD's new family of mobile discrete GPU products make their debut at this year's CES in systems from Alienware, Clevo, Lenovo and MSI.

AMD also oulined its desktop and mobile GPU and CPU roadmaps for 2013-2014. Among other chips, AMD announced three mobile GPUs: the "Radeon R9 M200" series, "Radeon R7 M200" series and the "Radeon R5 M200" series. Specifications are available below:
