Apple Wins Legal Battle Against Apple In S. Korean Court

Samsung Electronics lost the patent lawsuit in South Korea with its rivalApple after a Seoul court ruled that the iPhone maker did not violate Samsung's patents.

The Seoul Central District Court ruled Thursday that among three patents Samsung claimed Apple infringed on, two patents cannot be considered and accepted as Samsung's unique technology and the third one was not used by Apple. Samsung's patents were related to short message display methods and messaging grouping features.

The court ruled against a sale ban on the products and threw out Samsung's claim for 100 million won ($95,100) in damages.

Samsung and Apple have been embroiled in a legal battle in more than 10 countries across the globe.

Thursday's ruling comes after a Mannheim court in Germany dismissed Apple's claim that Samsung infringed on a utility patent that pertains to a multi-language function used in smartphones.

In November, a U.S. jury issued a verdict that orders Samsung to pay Apple 290 million U.S. dollars in damages for copying key features of its iPhone and iPad devices.

The figure was lower than the 1.05-billion-dollar damages, imposed by the previous jury in August 2012. Apple request 379.8 million dollars in damages from Samsung.

In a separate lawsuit in August 2012, a Seoul court ruled that the iPhone maker infringed on Samsung's two standard patents for data transmission technology.
