Fujitsu and Adaptec Annouce Interoperability of Enterprise Storage Solutions

Fujitsu Computer Products of America, Inc. (FCPA), and Adaptec, Inc. today announced the qualification of Fujitsu's hard disk drives (HDDs) with Adaptec's DuraStor external storage solutions. Today's announcement unites two industry leaders as they drive growth in the enterprise storage market and showcases their long-standing commitment to superior technology, channel relations and customer satisfaction.

"Fujitsu and Adaptec are providing the reliable external storage solutions and hard disk drives that make centralized storage affordable and easy to use for our customers," said Wade Huber, a marketing representative with World Data Products, a leading provider of hardware solutions for information systems. "The qualification of Fujitsu hard drives with Adaptec's external storage products is a big plus giving us the confidence that their products are fully interoperable and covered by Adaptec's robust customer service and support plan."

Adaptec's DuraStor external storage solutions are designed for flexibility, scalability, high fault-tolerance and performance. Providing maximum storage availability, the DuraStor subsystems include a 1U RAID appliance that holds up to two RAID controller cards, a 2U SCSI storage enclosure, and easy-to-use Storage Manager Pro software. The subsystems can easily be scaled to 876GB by installing up to 12 one-inch, 73GB drives in a single storage enclosure. For even greater capacity, up to three enclosures can be supported by any single DuraStor RAID appliance, providing nearly 2.7TB of centralized SCSI storage and nearly 3.5TB of networked storage with Fibre Channel. The full solution comes with a free one-year on-site service and support plan as well as other upgradeable service options.

"We are excited to announce that Fujitsu's MAN Series of enterprise hard drives are qualified with an enterprise data storage leader like Adaptec," said Lorne Wilson, vice president, channel sales and marketing, Fujitsu Computer Products of America. "This qualification allows our partners to sell with confidence and demonstrates Fujitsu's commitment to the channel in delivering solution-oriented programs and services.

"The addition of Fujitsu to Adaptec's growing list of leading hard disk drive vendors is a key step in our efforts to give end users and resellers more external storage solution choices in the channel," said Robert Cox, Adaptec's external storage marketing manager. "The performance and quality of Fujitsu hard drives dovetail with the Adaptec DuraStor product line to deliver robust enterprise-class solutions with the service and support customers need."

Fujitsu enterprise-class hard disk drives deliver industry-leading performance and with capacity points up to 73.5GB, an average seek time of 4.5 ms, and an average rotational latency of 2.99 ms, Fujitsu's MAN Series HDDs provide a storage solution for computing platforms such as workstations, network file servers and enterprise servers. Fujitsu's enterprise drives include innovative features such as an expanded 8MB data cache, reduced acoustic levels, and a high-performance, dual-processor architecture that greatly improves response time in high-load, multi-tasking applications.

In addition to their interoperability announcement, Fujitsu and Adaptec plan a series of joint marketing activities to support qualified products in the channel. The companies also began testing the new Adaptec Serial-ATA silicon. At the Intel Developer's Forum in late February, Fujitsu demonstrated its S-ATA drives working with the Adaptec 4-port RAID controller card. In the future, the companies will continue interoperability testing for the advancement of enterprise storage solutions for their worldwide distribution partners.
